The Black Stars’ vintage performance against their Sudanese counterparts, which handed them the Equatorial Guinea/Gabon Nations Cup ticket has stirred skipper John Mensah to praise his colleagues and the technical team for a job well done.
The Stars defied the fanatic home crowd and snatched victory when they left the Al Hilal Stadium in Omdurman unscathed, hitting the back of the Sudanese net twice through skipper John Mensah and Asamoah Gyan.
“I salute the technical team and my colleagues for this outstanding performance. We were aware of the consequences of this game, and our quest to make Ghana proud paid off,” he told DAILY GUIDE SPORTS in a post match interview.
“We dedicate this victory to all Ghanaians, and we pledge to go the extra in our future endeavours.
“We have turned our attention now to the international friendly against Nigeria in London on Tuesday, and we hoping to fly on the wings of Saturday’s victory to repeat the dose.
“It is true that it is an international friendly, but the healthy rivalry that exists between the two countries has fired us up to give off our best,” the Olympique Lyon defender added.
Asamoah Gyan fetched the opener, connecting home a Samuel Inkoom free kick with an outwitting header, while Mensah made it double with a strike from a melee.
The Stars are scheduled to play their Nigerian counterparts in London at the Vicarage Stadium on Tuesday in an international friendly.
