The National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) has hinted its regional branches will follow the footsteps of the Greater Accra branch of the association to declare a strike on Monday, if by Saturday, their two-month salary arrears are not paid.
In a statement to declare its intention to embark on strike, the Greater Accra branch of NAGRAT said there are no indications the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission(FWSC) wants to facilitate the payment of their arrears.
The president of the national NAGRAT, Christian Addae Poku, told Citi News Ghanaians should expect a nationwide strike from next week if nothing is done about their concerns.
“It looks like the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission are not concerned about our grievances and as a matter of fact, we are so peeved at the way, Mr. Graham [FWSC boss] and his group has managed this whole thing,” Mr Poku said.
“We were told that the Labour Commission had directed that within three days, they (FWSC) should call a meeting to discuss road maps on the payment of arrears.”
Mr. Poku said that no commitment had since been made by the commission to resolve the issue.
