Wolves ready to let fringe players leave

Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey has confessed that any players who are sold during the last month of the transfer window may not be replaced.

Manager Mick McCarthy has already spent over £10 million securing the services of Jamie O’Hara, Roger Johnson and goalkeeper Dorus De Vries.

The Irishman is still hoping to strengthen his squad but Moxey has told him that players must be sold too.

“This is not about ‘cash-strapped Wolves having to sell before they can buy’, or that can we only bring in players if we get rid of players first,” Moxey told Wolves’ official website.

“We have got a small amount of spare capacity within the overall squad, which means some players are available to leave.

“It doesn’t make sense to certain senior players – and neither for us – to keep them here if they are not going to play.”

McCarthy will be hoping to complete the signing of at least one midfielder, with the likes of Jay Liverpool’s Spearing and Thomas Hitzlsperger of West Ham being linked with a move to Molineux.

Moxey added: “If we find the right player at the right money, then we might still add to our squad because we are always looking to improve the team and we think we have done so already.

“Myself and the manager are still speaking to lots of people regarding players in, and out, and that process will continue until Mick is satisfied with the make-up of the squad or the transfer window closes.”
