Vazquez told Spanish daily El Mundo Deportivo that he reckons signing Fabregas is not necessary, as they already possess a ball-playing midfielder coming through the ranks in the form of Thiago, who impressed for Barca in their recent Audi Cup win over Bayern Munich.
He stated: “It is a difficult issue, but I would not sign him Fabregas now. And not because he isn’t a quality player, which is unquestionable, but Thiago is now at a very high level.
“He Fabregas is a good option, but is it wise to spend so much money for a player who the club does not need in such a position? I feel bad for Thiago, because he is currently in a winning mode.
“In any case, if he were to arrive, the club would gain a player who has high technical knowledge of the position, and also of the club and his new team-mates.”
The 23-year-old attacking midfielder was once held in the same regard as the likes of Lionel Messi and Gerard Pique, but suffered an injury in February 2009 whilst playing for Barcelona B that halted his development, and he has now joined Belgian outfit Club Brugge.
