The National Emergency Management Agency’s North-East Zonal Coordinator, Alhaji Aliyu Sambo said on Thursday that the agency would create five zonal distribution centres in Yobe for easy distribution of relief materials to persons displaced by the Boko Haram crisis in Maiduguri.

The centres will be established in the Potiskum, Jakusko, Nangere Fika, Gashua and Nguru Local Government Areas.

Sambo said that materials had been distributed to more than 250 displaced persons in Potiskum under the supervision of security personnel while the remaining four centres would soon receive materials for distribution. According to him, most of the displaced persons are children between the ages of two and 12, as well as housewives with each having a minimum of three children.

He expressed regret that the crisis had forced many displaced persons to take refuge in the houses of their relations while some slept in the streets or primary schools in the state capital and local government headquarters.

Sambo said the agency was determined to continue assisting the victims, and urged them to be patient as the relief items would get to them soon.
