Teachers have renewed calls for Education minister Sam Ongeri to resign over the Sh4.2 billion missing Free Primary Education cash. Speaking in Mombasa, the teachers said they are disgusted by Ongeri’s move to parade and shame junior officers on Tuesday, in a public forum, in order to defend himself.

Kenya National Union of Teachers Assistant Secretary General Mudzo Nzili said Ongeri must take political responsibility and resign. The teachers said the disbursement of funds squarely lies in his docket, and as investigations are ongoing, he should not try to pass the buck. “It is wrong for him to defend himself in a public forum yet investigations are ongoing. Leadership and integrity issues dictate that he takes responsibility whether the funds were lost through commission or omission,” Nzili said.
