TWAHA Mbarak led a strong squad of ex-internationals to Rongena and Mulot in Narok South yesterday to spread news of his candidacy for the chairman’s seat at the August 13 national football elections. The former footballer donated balls and uniforms to an area he was told none of the other candidates had spent time on. Mbarak was accompanied by his running mate Josephat “Controller” Murilla and John “Bobby” Ogolla the former AFC Leopards and Gor Mahia defensive pillars.

Murilla is Twaha’s man for the senior vice chairmanship while Ogolla and another Harambee Stars defender turned coach Ricky Solomon Mghalu are eyeing national executive committee seats in Nairobi and Mombasa respectively. Giving them support on the tour is legendary winger Joe Kadenge, Harambee Stars midfielder Douglas Mutua and goalkeeper Mahmoud Abbas.

Twaha kicked off the Western region roadshow over the weekend in Kisii. It took in Homa Bay, Bondo, Mumias, Vihiga, Kakamega, Kitale and Nakuru before crossing over to Narok South. “I’m really impressed with the level of interest in football in this part of the country,” Mbarak said adding ” There are 25 clubs here in Narok South but overall more than 100 clubs in the area that play regular football.

I am very happy with the reception we have received.” In Nakuru he met club officials from the area to sell his policies.”My reason of seeking leadership is to fight for football at the grassroots so that we can have a level playing ground. We want to make the football industry lively and rewarding for the youth who are now unemployed,” he said.
