The Kenya Electricity Transmission Company Limited (Ketraco), has moved in to settle the dispute pitting a contractor it has hired and residents of Witu over payment on an electricity program. Ketraco officials yesterday flew to Lamu to quell the tension that has threatened to further delay the Sh9 billion project, which is set to provide electricity up to Hindi, Magogoni, where the proposed Lamu port will be constructed.
The head of communications at Ketraco, Raphael Mworia, said officers had been sent to the ground from Nairobi, to acertain where the problem begun. “The Rabai-Malindi-Garsen-Lamu project is going to take high voltage transmission power to Lamu, since it is not connected to the national grid, the problem being experienced between the contractor and residents should end,” said Mworia
