Abuja — Nigeria-Equatorial Joint Commission is to be revived as a platform where political and economic issues, together with other areas of shared interests between the two countries could be articulated.
President Goodluck Jonathan disclosed this on Thursday during bilateral talks with African Union (AU) Chairman and President of Equatorial Guinea, Nguema Mbasogo, on the sidelines of the on-going 17th AU Summit in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea’s capital.
Jonathan stressed the need for both countries to have more robust diplomatic relations to frontally address development issues that affect their citizens.
The President particularly thanked Mbasogo for his intervention that ensured release of some Nigerians that were implicated in attempt by some citizens of that country to attack the presidential palace some time ago.
On the continental front, Jonathan assured the AU chairman of Nigeria’s support and assistance in tackling common challenges in Africa, noting that African leaders must play active roles to entrench democracy, good governance and rapid development across the continent.
