Anglican Communion News Service (London) 29 June 2011 On Thursday 30th June at 14h00 the Most Revd Dr Thabo Makgoba, Anglican Archbishop of Cape Town, will lead a delegation from the Western Cape Religious Leaders' Forum to a number of informal settlements in Khayelitsha, to stand in solidarity with local people suffering from inadequate sanitation.

Osun State Governor Mr Rauf Aregbesola has blamed the Federal Government for the poor maintenance of federal highways, saying the phenomenon has contributed to the carnage on the country’s roads.

The governor spoke in Osogbo on Wednesday while receiving the Corps Marshall, Federal Road Safety Corps, Mr Osita Chidoka, who paid him a courtesy visit.

Aregbesola called on the FRSC to introduce alcohol detection mechanism in order to curb accidents on the highway.

The governor also called on the Federal Government to handover the responsibility of maintaining federal roads to state governments in view of its inability to handle them efficiently.

He said his administration was planning to retrain and re-certify commercial vehicle drivers in Osun State to ensure safety on the highways.

The governor, who called for co-operation between his administration and the FRSC, promised to ensure that only qualified persons drive on Osun roads.

“I desire that the FRSC introduces alcohol content detection in the drivers on our road just like their counterparts in the developed world. I want us collectively save lives and reduce the carnage on our roads,” he said.
