Fabricio Coloccini: Newcastle United require a strong pre-season

Fabricio Coloccini insists Newcastle United require strong preparation for next season and believes the club can push on from last term’s mid-table place.

Alan Pardew’s side sealed 12th in the Premier League following their promotion from the Championship last season, and have already signed Yohan Cabaye, Demba Ba and Sylvain Marveaux this summer.

While insisting a thorough pre-season is vital, Coloccini is also targeting an improved run of form at St James’ Park.

“Now it is about the future at Newcastle and working towards next season,” Coloccini said.

“Our first aim was to be safe last season and we achieved it. Next season we will look to move up the table again.”

“Hopefully we can get better results at home, win more matches than last year and climb up the table.

Despite reports linking him with a move away from Newcastle, Coloccini is adamant he is happy at the club and maintains team spirit is high. 

“We work well together as a team and I think that showed when it mattered last season,” he said.

“I am happy at Newcastle and when I hear the fans singing my name it gives me a special feeling.”
