Umuahia— GOVERNOR Theodore Orji of Abia State, weekend, reconstituted local government transition committees with appoint-ment of new chairmen for the the 17 councils in the state.
He charged them to execute at least one project which he must commission in his first 100 days in office.
Governor Orji warned the chairmen not to disappoint the government and the people of Abia State, even as he charged them to operate democratically by working with other appointed councillors and their deputies.
Stressing that their appointment was done after considering their loyalty and performance, the governor, however, warned, that ”you can chose to write your name in gold or allow your name to be dumped in the dust bin.”
He also charged them to focus on grassroots development and see their appointment as a privilege and not a right, adding that their activities would be monitored very closely to ensure they did not derail from the government’s programme.
“You activities will be monitored. Days of indolence and impunity are over in Abia. I will not waste time to sack any of you,” Governor Orji warned.
