Coast provincial director of public health and sanitation Anisa Omar has said the dispensaries in the region are overwhelmed and cannot accommodate the high number of women giving birth in the facilities. Omar said the design of the existing dispensaries, most of which have only three delivering rooms, contributes to women giving birth at home which she described as a risk to their health.
She called on the government to set aside more funds for the establishment of additional dispensaries and to redesign the existing ones to create more delivering rooms. “Mothers need privacy. The delivery rooms in our dispensaries are not enough.
The number of expecting women keep on rising and the facilities also need to be improved to cope with the number,” said Omar. She was speaking at the Karisa Maitha Stadium.
