Philips Adefioye 17 June 2011 Flying Eagles chief coach, John Obuh has described the team's victory at the Africa Youth championship, AYC, as a positive result ahead of the FIFA Under-20 World Cup in Colombia. Obuh in an exclusive interview with Saturday Vanguard sports said his promise to Nigerians was to win the ticket to the U-20 World Cup which was his first fulfilment, qualifying the country to the final of the AYC was his second which gingered his ward's spirit not to allow a second defeat from the Cubs of Cameroon.

Dar es Salaam — The national team’s preparations for this year’s Special Olympic Games received a timely boost yesterday when Stanbic bank donated Sh3 million to the team.

Over 7,000 athletes with mental disabilities from more than 180 countries across the world are expected to battle it out for top honours during the games set for June 25 to July 4 in Athens, Greece. Stanbic bank head of marketing and corporate affairs Abdallah Singano handed over the money to the team during a brief ceremony held at Tanzania Special Olympics office yesterday.

Speaking at the occasion, Singano said the donation is part of the bank’s corporate social responsibility in assisting various worthy causes in the community. “As a bank we are pleased to assist the Tanzania Special Olympic committee and we hope the team will perform well,” said Singano.

“We are even more pleased to show our support to these special athletes. We wish them all the best in the games,” he added. The Athens Games are expected to attract 7,000 athletes from more than 180 countries around the world, 3,000 coaches and officials, 40,000 family members as well as thousands of spectators to cheer athletes.
