Directors of Sports from the 36 states of the federation and the FCT have thrown their weight behind the Director General of National Sports Commission (NSC)
Chief Patrick Ekeji over the steps he is taking to resolve the crisis rocking Nigerian football.
The directors who were in Abuja early this week for a meeting had after their parley commended Chief Ekeji for wading into the soccer crisis, even as they charged him to ensure he does all within his powers to sanitize the system.
A communiqué release by the body stated in part: “We want to commend the director general for wading into the crisis rocking Nigerian football and assure him of our support. We charge him to ensure that the crisis is resolved with the nation’s interest coming ahead of that of any individual or group. “
The directors also noted with satisfaction steps being taken by the NSC leadership to professional sports administration in the country. They pledged to take similar steps at the state level as a way of fast tracking sports development in the country.
On the 17th National Sports Festival which begins July 2nd in Port Harcourt, the directors stated that the computerization of accreditation process was a development that would make the games better.
They also gave kudos to the hosts, Rivers state, for getting the nation’s number one citizen, President Goodluck Jonathan and the governors to be part of the show.
“The meeting noted and commended the extension of invitation by the Rivers State Government to Mr. President and other State Governors to the flag hoisting ceremony today in Port-Harcourt.
The meeting also noted the successful introduction of the on-line registration and the Delegates
Registration Meeting (DRM) in line with International best practices.”
It would be noted that over 12,000 athletes and officials have been accredited for the Garden City games which will feature 25 events.
