The Standard-bearer of the National Democratic Party of Liberia (NDPL), Dr. Moses C. T. Jarbo, has admonished Liberians to put the nation first in everything they undertake to do as a demonstration of patriotism and love of country.
He said it was high time that every citizen sees the nation as his or her personal property and develop a culture of true love that would prove that Liberia belongs to everyone and not a just particular group of people.
Dr. Jarbo, who is seeking the presidency in October at the helm of the pre-civil war ruling party, said Liberians must design programs and activities that will indicate their readiness to live and work in peace and above the vices that plunged the country into years of civil war.
Speaking to a team of reporters at the weekend in Monrovia, following his return from the United States of America, Mr. Jarbo reminded Liberians that it was time to throw the 27 locust years behind them and focus on the development of the country for posterity.
He said NDPL, upon his election as president, would immediately embark upon putting mechanisms into place for the rebuilding of the nation’s devastated infrastructures.
He said the party would also focus on upgrading the quality of the nation’s education system by constructing vocational training institutions throughout the country to build the job capacity of those who did not have the opportunity to obtain formal education.
This, he said, would help reduce unemployment amongst the young people, some of whom he said it was pathetic to see doing odd jobs in the streets of Monrovia just to earn their daily bread and keep alive.
Mr. Jarbo, who is a onetime chairman of the National Commission on Disarmament Demobilization and Rehabilitation, noted that while the ongoing political rivalry was healthy for the nation’s democratization, the focus must be putting the nation first before and above all else.
