Nbr — The chief executive officer (CEO) of the AFPRC General Hospital in Farafenni has expressed gratitude to the Al Basar International Foundation under the auspices of the Africa Muslims Agency for recently organising a five-day eye camp medical programme at the AFPRC General Hospital in Farafenni, North Bank Region.
Speaking to this reporter on Wednesday at his office at the hospital grounds, Alagie Saine said the Foundation works in the field of prevention and eradication/controlling of blindness and blinding diseases. “It was a free outreach eye care programme provided on humanitarian grounds to the communities of Farafenni as well as people of The Gambia and beyond,” he explained.
He disclosed that specialists in eye services were provided by a team of senior surgeons, medical officers, ophthalmic technicians with state-of-the-art medical technology including microscopes, phacomachines, keratometers, scans, autoclaves, ophthalmoscope etc as well as drugs, intraocular lenses, sutures etc during the five-day programme. He said that the team screened and treated thousands of patients with distribution of drugs for glaucoma, allergies, infections, trachoma etc.
Saine added: “Moreover, successful quality control surgeries were carried out on 286 patients and were provided with a complete schedule of post operative follow-ups i.e. fist follow-up within one week and the second after six weeks. Above-all the intervention was a great success in the fight against eye diseases and complications. In this regard and on behalf of the Hospital Management Board, I am very much appreciative and thankful to the Africa Muslims Agency.
In particular, special thanks and gratitude is extended to the team from Al-Basar International Foundation for their invaluable services and the expertise learned from them by the hospital eye specialists.”
