Kenya University students missed the qualifying mark for the August’s world university games in China during their trials at Chepkoilel University over the weekend.
The Kenya University Athletic trials were meant to select the team to represent Kenya at the World University Games scheduled for August 12-24 in Shenzen, China but none of the entrants dipped under the qualifying marks.
In the men’s 5,000m, little known Joseph Kariuki of Kenyatta came closest with a timing of 15:09.4 just missing the 15:00.00 benchmark.
In the women’s category, Florece Kimaiyo of KU stormed to victory in 17.41.2 failling to cut under the event’s qualifying mark of 17.00 minutes. Robert Lang’at of Egerton missed the men’s 800m mark by a mere 4.04 seconds after winning the race in 1:54.04 minutes. In the women’s 800m, Jane Karemi of KEMU who was chasing the 2.15.00 mark posted 2.40.5 minutes to win the race.
In the 10,000m men and women. Leonard Muchira and Florence Kimaiyo both of Kenyatta University won in 33.35.4 and 39.38.89 respectively.
