Babucarr Chatty, the 14 -year-old Steve Biko midfielder, who was selected for The Gambia U-17 team was on Thursday presented with an air ticket to India for medical treatment, at a presentation ceremony held at the Ministry of Youth and Sports offices in Banjul.

The young player has been battling with heart problem which made him seek treatment at the Medical Research Council (MRC) but requires further international treatment.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Kumba Conateh-Nam, the deputy permanent secretary, Ministry of Youths and Sports, who presented the air ticket to Chatty on behalf of her minister said Babucarr Chatty’s air ticket was facilitated by the minister of Youths and Sports, Sheriff Gomez.

“The minister was in India in 2010 where he attended the Commonwealth games and during his visit, he made arrangements with the authorities for the player to be taken to India for medical treatment as the player cannot be treated in The Gambia”. According to DPS Conateh-Nam, Chatty will be accompanied to India by one Michel Sambou, a registered nurse who will provide assistance adding that the life of every Gambian is important to them especially footballers who will one day be the future players of this country.

Fatou Jawara, the mother of Babucarr Chatty, thanked the minister for what she described as a bold imitative to save the life of her son.
