Adam Johnson has praised Manchester City team-mate Carlos Tevez as the club look to keep hold of their wantaway star.

England winger Johnson has stated how big a blow it would be to the club if they lose the Argentine forward who helped them to an FA Cup win and qualification for the Champions League this season.

He told The Mirror: “He carries us sometimes with his goals and his drive. He is probably the best player I have played with.

“Some of the goals and some of the stuff he does in training is just unbelievable. I hope we keep hold of him, just like all the City fans do, because Carlos will be a major part next season when we are playing in the Champions League.”

Tevez has been linked with a host of clubs as rumours of homesickness still circle the forward who moved to England five years ago in a controversial transfer to West Ham United.

Johnson, 23, who started his career at Middlesbrough, was also keen to point out just how rare players like his club captain are.

He continued: “He keeps himself to himself mostly and does his talking on the pitch. That’s what I like about him.

“He would be very hard to replace. There’s probably only five or six strikers out there who get you that many goals a season at the highest level. We have one of them, so it would be great if we could keep him.”
