The police are investigating an incident in which an allegedly drunk police officer stormed a nightclub in Tseikuru district, manhandled and injured a bar maid.

Following the Sunday night incident at Tseikuru trading centre, Mwingi acting police division commander Simon Kipkemboi Birir visited the town yesterday to get firsthand information. “This is a serious allegation directed at a senior police officer. I cannot rely on hearsay. I am travelling to Tseikuru on a fact-finding mission. I will take appropriate action if the claim turns out to be true,” Birir told the Star. The police boss said night club owner Joseph Muthisya had reported the alleged incident at Tseikuru police post.

Birir added that although Muthisya’s sentiments were corroborated by the victim Mary Mwiyathi Musyoka, he had decided to investigate the matter personally.

Muthisya claimed that the police officer went into his night club and without provocation started hauling insults at the bar maid before beating her up. He claimed the police officer threatened the bar maid that he would fetch a gun from nearby police post and shoot her.
