Egypt: Coptic Era Archeological City Excavated in New Valley

    The Supreme Council of Antiquities mission excavating in the area of Ayn al-Sabeel in al-Dakhla oasis in the governorate of the New Valley unearthed an archeological city that dates back to the Coptic age (4th century AD), said the SCA chief on Wednesday 30/1 1/2011.

    “A church built on the basilica fashion was found in the middle of the city,” said SCA Secretary-General Mostafa Amin.

    He noted that the excavation works also revealed some buildings near the church initial studies suggest they were service facilities for monks and priests as well as church visitors.
