Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is willing to offer the club’s new manager a contract worth £6 million a year, according to The News of the World.

The Russian, who sacked Carlo Ancelotti only hours after the club lost away to Everton on the last day of the season, is desperate to win the Champions League and is prepared to break the bank in order to tempt his managerial targets to the role.

Ancelotti, who won the double with Chelsea in his first season, was being paid the same sum before his dismissal.

Abramovich’s first choice is reportedly Guus Hiddink, who is currently managing Turkey and won the FA Cup with the Stamford Bridge outfit during a spell as caretaker manager two years ago.

However, it is thought that the Dutchman isn’t overly keen on taking over in such a high pressure environment and therefore chairman Bruce Bruck, chief executive Ron Gourlay and director Eugene Tenenbaum have been given the task of drawing up a shortlist of other potential candidates.

This list is thought to include Porto boss Andres Villas-Boas, Marseille coach Didier Deschamps and recently dismissed Bayern Munich boss, Louis Van Gaal.
