Waste Removal Despite Poor Urban Planning

Luanda — The sharp increase and poor structured urbanisation planning in the cities like Luanda, makes difficult but not impossible the collection of garbage, said Tuesday the minister of Environment and Territory Planning of Portugal.

Dulce Pássaro, who was speaking to Angop in Luanda, said that the garbage collection in the country’s capital is more difficult because it firstly requires an intervention at the level of an efficient collection, the removal of garbage to the dumping sites, the monitored units.

From there, she explained, the process can centre on closing of dumping sites and then encourage the placing of equipment for selected collection.

“The process can start with a collective garbage collection in barracks, hospitals, hotels and commerce outlets, where there is high concentration, rather than in dispersed urban system”, advised the official.

The official underlined that the solutions must be technically simples and this requires steps.

The dumping site in Luanda was created in 2007 and is based in Mulenvos zone, Cacuaco district.
