Luanda — The Angolan Environment minister, Maria de Fátima Jardim, Tuesday in Luanda said that there are a lot of alternatives to be adopted to reduce and giving value to wastes within the Portuguese-speaking Countries Community (CPLP), although technologies are still expensive for some member countries.
The minister made this statement while speaking in the high level meeting on waste management of the CPLP environment ministers. She defended the needs of giving value for wastes by transforming them into other useful environmental products, an action that may become CPLP a success and sustainable development.
“It was the main objective that made us selecting this item about wastes, since this is a great environmental sustainable challenge for Angola and other CPLP developing member States”, underlined the government official.
The minister recognized that in Angola it is not yet resolved problems related to wastes resulting from domestic activities, mainly in urban zone.
The meeting is being held under the motto “Handling Wastes-Defending the Future”, and discusses items like waste management models, integrated management system of wastes fluxes and the quality water supply to population.
The event is being attended by the environment ministers of Sao Tome e Principe, Cape Verde, Mozambique, Portugal, and other members States are represented by their diplomats accredited in Angola.
