Freetown — Leone Stars striker Mustapha ‘Hadji’ Bangura’s hopes of winning silverware again this season were dashed after his side, Apollon Limassol, lost to Omonia Nicosia in the Cyprus Cup final on Wednesday.
The Sierra Leone international played full time as his side narrowly lost the final on penalty shoot-out to his former club Omonia Nicosia 4-3 after 1-1 both regular and extra time.
Omonia Nicosia took the lead in the 12th minute through Michalis Konstatonou and five minutes to time Bangura’s deflated shot gave Apollon Limassol the equalizer; but the goal was ruled an own goal credited to Erasmia Charalampidou.
Bangura, who scored in each round of the tournament, also converted his spot kick despite his side losing in the end.
