Francesco Totti has made it clear that he wants to see Carlo Ancelotti take over as coach at Roma this summer.

Ancelotti has long been linked with a move to the Italian capital, and rumours about a return to Serie A have intensified since Chelsea decided to part company with him on Sunday.

Totti told reporters after his side’s 3-1 win over Sampdoria on Sunday evening: “I hope Ancelotti is in contention after he left Chelsea.”

Current head coach Vincenzo Montella is widely expected to be replaced by a more experienced alternative ahead of the 2011-12 campaign, although the former Italy international is hopeful of keeping his job.

Montella said on Sunday: “I have been evaluated by the directors who are at the training ground every day and it was gratifying to prove I can already do this job. It’s already a very satisfying experience and we’ll see over the next few days what happens.”

Former Argentina and Chile coach Marcelo Bielsa is believed to be the current front runner for the post with the capital giants, while Chievo’s Stefano Pioli has met with incoming sporting director Walter Sabatini.
