Dar Es Salaam — Veteran professional boxer Joseph “Hungry Lion” Marwa will tomorrow fight Germany’s Alexander Petkovic for the vacant International Boxing Federation (IBF) Eastern and Western European heavyweight titles.

The scheduled 12-round fight will take place in the German city of Munich, according to organisers. Marwa left for Germany yesterday in high spirits after training for about a month.

“I have been looking forward to this fight. I want to prove that I’m a force to be reckoned with in boxing. I’m satisfied with the preparations I have made, and I’m confident I will return with the belts,” he told The Citizen.

The bout has been organised by Robert Rolle and will be supervised by the German Boxing Association (GBA). Marwa has a record of 24 wins (seven by knockout), 16 losses (6 by knockout) and one draw.

Petkovic has a record of 39 victories (20 knockouts), four losses and four draws. Other bouts will see Varol Vekiloglu fight Nikola Matic in a scheduled eight-round light-heavyweight encounter.
