Luanda — The Angolan deputy minister of Health, Evelize Fresta, Friday, in Luanda, reaffirmed that one of the main goals of the Angolan Government is the commitment to reducing child and maternal mortality.
Speaking under the motto “The importance of family planning in reducing maternal mortality,” Evelize Fresta considered that maternal mortality, in addition to other factors, leads to “very high” social costs , since it affects the fundamental core upon which rests family organization.
According to the deputy minister, the death of women in gestational period serves as an indicator of public health to assess the degree of human development in a country, as well as inequality in access to sexual and reproductive health.
In explaining what is maternal mortality, Evelize Fresta underlined that it is the death of a woman during pregnancy or within 42 days of termination of pregnancy, independently from the duration or location of the pregnancy.
