Huambo — About 35 people including pastors and leaders of religious groups from different churches in the city of Huambo are attending since Wednesday a symposium on HIV/AIDS.
Under the motto “Christian response to the HIV/AIDS pandemic,” the meeting, which ends today, is being sponsored by the Association of United Youth for Life (JUVP), with the support from the British Nongovernmental Organization OXAFAM.
The HIV/AIDS project coordinator of the association of United Youth for Life, Philip Pessela revealed that the event aims to awaken the religious institutions to the need to prevent the community about the risk of the disease.
Increase information to change behaviour in society and reducing the prevalence rate of HIV/AIDS is also the purpose of this project.
Philip Pessela said that by the end of the afternoon, participants will discuss issues concerning “the origin of HIV/AIDS,” the difference between HIV and AIDS,” “How the HIV weakens the protection system “and the” four stages of infection virus, its time to clinical progression and the conditions it needs to infect someone. “
