Mogadishu — As massive demonstrations denouncing the accord reached by Somali president and speaker suggesting one year mandate extension of the government, the prime minister of Somalia on Friday for first time spoke publicly.
Addressing at State Run Radio Mogadishu, Mohammed Abdullahi Mohammed, the popular premier of Somalia called for the people to be calm and stay at their homes.
“It is compulsory on us to respect the expression and the need of our people, because you have the right to talk about your nation’s self-determination” Mohammed told the demonstrators.
He spelled out that the military forces are heroes of the nation, urging them not desert their trenches and the security forces to assure peace and tranquility.
He took office in November 2010 after his predecessor quit because of internal disputes.
On Thursday, military officials threatened to vacate Mogadishu if the prime minister quits the job.
