Veteran Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes has hailed manager Sir Alex Ferguson’s “calming influence” as the season draws to a close, insisting there is no one better at dealing with the pressures of a title run-in.
The Red Devils take on Chelsea on Sunday with the Blues just three points behind Ferguson’s side with three games to go although Scholes admits that Ferguson has the experience to deal with these situations, including any potential mind-games with opposing managers.
“He has had some famous run-ins with other managers down the years,” Scholes told Inside United.
“Whether there’s anybody to do that with this year, I am not too sure.
“But he is great as a calming influence on us. Coming towards the end of the season, there is no better manager to have.
“He has been through this, competing for the title, for nearly 20 years now, so he knows what he wants to do and he will get that across to us.”
Scholes claims the players are just as hungry as they were last season when they lost out to Chelsea in the title race and believes the disappointment of the previous campaign will give the Red Devils an added determination.
“We were just as hungry last year but it is not nice when you see other teams celebrating,” he added.
“We want to make sure it’s us this year.”
