It would be recalled that on Sunday, some delegates in the Zebilla constituency of the NPP threatened mayhem if the party fails to organize a parliamentary primary in three days. They accused the national executives of attempting to impose a candidate on the constituency.
However, speaking at a meeting of constituency executives at Zebilla on Wednesday, Mr. Anaba Albert Atiswini, Communication Officer for the constituency stated that it was not the decision of over 10,000 supporters in the constituency, neither the entire delegates from 99 polling stations and 30 electoral area coordinators, nor constituency executives, but a group of party members who expressed their anger over the delay of the party to get a candidate for the constituency.
He explained that at the close of nomination for the parliamentary primaries for the Zebilla constituency, only Mr. Frank Fuseini Adongo had filed. However, petitions were written to the national executives questioning the legitimacy of Mr. Adongo in the party and copied the constituency executives.
The executives also denied that the party does not want to see the presidential candidate, Nana Addo Dankwa Akofo-Addo in the constituency, as it was reported. They recalled that Nana Addo polled almost 90% of the votes of delegates in the primaries organized nationwide, and Zebilla would continue to support him fully for agenda 2012.
According to the executives, since the inception of Zebilla as a constituency, it has always been an orphan constituency for NPP, as the NDC is a strong force to recon with. They said the only way to unseat the incumbent MP, Mr. Cletus Avoka, is through unity, hard work and determination.
‘If we begin to form factions, we are creating deep cracks in the party and the precious time we would use to champion our course for agenda 2012 would be used to mend the cracks we have created by ourselves, and this does not speak well of an orphan constituency like Zebilla’, they stressed.
They are, therefore, appealing to all party members and aggrieved parties to exercise restraint as the national, regional and constituency executives explore all avenues to get a legitimate, marketable and winning parliamentary candidate for the constituency.
Zebilla and Talensi constituencies in the Upper East Region were among the10 constituencies that election of parliamentary candidates was suspended following some unresolved issues.
Present at the executive meeting were; Mr. Isaah Seidu, chairman, Alhaji Iddi Bawa, 2nd Vice Chairman, Madam Cecelia Sumailla, Treasurer, Mr. Roland Afoa, Deputy Organizer, Alhaji Mahamadu Asaki, Nasara Coordinator, Madam Victoria Ayamba, Women’s Organizer and Madam Felicia Aboko, deputy Women’s Organizer.
