Speaking on a wide range of issues in an exclusive interview with Xfm’s Emefa Apawu, Dr Ayeh stated that he has been approached by the former first lady and believes that she has what it takes to win the presidency hence his decision to support her ambition and debunked the notion that the former first lady’s decision is not healthy for the party, citing examples as Thabo Mbeki and Margaret Thatcher being contested by other people whiles still in office.
Dr. Ayeh also spoke on circumstances leading to his exit as the general secretary of the NDC describing the whole incident as bizarre and illogical. He further revealed that although people advised him to seek redress, his decision not to pursue the matter was for the interest of the party and stated emphatically that he is still a member of NDC despite the unfair treatment he received from the party.
On whether the NDC government is delivering on its “Better Ghana Agenda” promise, he said, that will be up to the people of Ghana to judge, but added that he was pleased with the abolishing of the Shift System in the Greater Accra Region by the Accra Metropolitan Assembly.
Touching on the supposed divisions and factions in the NDC, he stated that “it’s normal for political parties to have wings but how they manage the issues within is what will make the party come out as united or otherwise.”
Asked if he thinks President Mills is a onetime president, he replied, “I am not a prophet to know that but I believe the people will decide that through the ballot box”. He was, however, quick to add that former presidents like Jimmy Carter of the USA and Thabo Mbeki of South Africa were one term presidents but are still respected by their people.
He advised party members to avoid the campaign of insults and demonizing during the primaries to promote unity and peace in the party.
