England Under-21 manager Stuart Pearce is reportedly set to call up Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere to his provisional 40-man squad for the European Championships in Denmark.
Pearce has in the past taken the strongest available squad for competitions, and took Theo Walcott to the tournament in 2009 despite Arsene Wenger being keen on the player taking a break during the summer.
Now The Guardian claims that Pearce will call up Wilshere into his squad, potentially causing more friction with the Frenchman.
The Arsenal manager’s belief has been that breaking into the senior national team – as Wilshere has done – should signal the end of the player’s career in the youth squad.
Wilshere has played 52 games this season for club and country.
