Dar Club in Preps for Swimming Meet

As the national tryout competition draws closer, Dar es Salaam Swimming Club have already started perfecting their skills.The competition that will involve both Mainland and Isles clubs will be held on Saturday at Heaven of Peace pools here.

Tanzania Swimming Association (TSA) secretary general Noel Kiunsi said preparations for the anxiously awaited event were on course, adding that seven club from Zanzibar had until yesterday confirmed their participation.

“We are heading in the right direction as far as preparations are concerned, many teams have confirmed participation including seven from the isles,” he said.Kiunsi named the Isles teams as: Mkunguni, Wete, Chakechache, Michenzani, Malindi, Forodhani and Zanzibar Urban West.

According to him, Dar es Salaam will field nine teams, which are: JKT, Hopac, Navy Kigamboni, Mzizima, Dar es Salaam Marine Club, Dar es Salaam Swimming Club, International School of Tanganyika and University of Dar es Salaam.

He named other regions setting sights on the tournament as: Arusha, Coast, Dodoma, Mwanza, Shinyanga, Morogoro, Iringa, Tanga, Lindi, Mtwara and Kilimanjaro.

The swimmers will compete in 50metres and 100metres backstroke, freestyle, medley and butterfly.

He pointed out that after the event the association would pick the best swimmers in both male and female categories who will constitute the national team for the All Africa Games slated for Maputo, Mozambique in September.
