Tanzania will be looking to put the horror of crashing out of the ICC World League Division IV behind when the inaugural African Advanced Players gets underway on May 14 in Benoni, South Africa.
The national team open its campaign against Rwanda in an anticipated tough match, which would give a clue of how Tanzania will perform in South Africa.The team, which has been undergoing arduous training for over a month, boasts five professional players who have exhibited outstanding skills despite their frustrations in Italy last year.
Skipper Hamis Abdallah, Abik Patwa and Benson Mwita are some of the star cricketers who are expected to inspire the national team to glory. However, if team is to leave its mark in the inaugural championship, they have to out-duel the likes of Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Ghana and Malawi who are all in Pool A.
Fixtures released by the African Cricket Association (TCA) shows that on the same day, Nigeria will pit their wits against Mozambique while Ghana will be in action against Swaziland.
Tanzania Cricket Association (TCA) chief executive officer Zulfikar Rehemtullah told The Citizen that his players were in tops shape ahead of the event.”We have trained for quite a long time, so we believe that our players will not let us down.”Rwanda are a great side, but given the experience we have, they are’nt going to trouble us,” he said.
