The victims, mainly Tamale market women, were robbed off their belongings at Gaa Yapala in the Karaga district of the Northern Region.
Though, all the victims escaped unhurt, the robbers suspected to be Fulani herdsmen absconded with monies running into several thousands of Ghana cedis. One of the victims, Baba Rufai told Citi News at the scene that they were on their usual trip to Gushegu market to buy and sell.
One Mma Barakatu Inusah said the robbers collected her GH 2000 cedis and a mobile phone. Her friend, Mma Adamu Ibrahim also said her GH 2800 cedis and two mobile phones were taken away.The incident occured at a time when President Mills was addressing the May Day (Workers Day) parade in Tamale.
Amongst other officials, Hon. Hussein Sulemana, DCE for Karaga and his
colleague Gushegu DCE Hon. Alhassan Fuseini are with President as he wraps up his four-day official tour of the Northern Region.
The Karaga-Gushegu road has recorded series of armed robbery cases which majority of the victims being traders from Tamale.
