Parents urged to immunize children against polio

The Immunization Officer at Kuje Primary Health Centre, Mr.Biko G. Williams, yesterday called on all parents, who have children between the ages of 1 and 5 to bring them out to be immunised during the four -day special immunization exercise in the area.

He said the exercise is aimed at eradicating polio and other related diseases in the council, adding that pregnant mothers and patients with weakness in their upper arms or legs should come out en masse to benefit from the programme.

According to him, more than 30 special teams have been trained to administer vaccines on people across thousands of households, churches, mosques and market places in the council, assuring that community leaders have been mobilizing as well as sensitizing their subjects to reduce the problem of non-compliance.

Williams said the centre has also put necessary mechanism in place to monitor the activities of field workers for a perfect exercise, saying that the authority of the council has provided necessary logistics for it to be successful.

“Parents should allow their children to be immunized so as to enable all of us fight polio and other related diseases to the finish. Our earlier attempts have been successful and we need more cooperation from all stakeholders,” he added.

He advised parents to report any case of sudden paralysis of limbs and guinea worm to the centre for appropriate attention.
