Nigeria: Rabiu Out of Liberia Match

PSV Eindhoven of Netherlands attacking midfielder Rabiu Ibrahim is ruled out of the Nigeria Liberia All Africa Games second leg first round qualifying match billed for the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City on April 30th.

The Players is rested on doctors’ advice following a knee injury sustained in the first leg encounter in Monrovia, Liberia.

” After seeing one of the best Orthopaedic doctor in the country at University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan and undergoing an MRI test at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), it is in the interest of the players’ career and the nation to rest him ahead of the next game” declared the Dream team doctor, Ogbondeminu Samuel.

Dr Samuel added that “he is presently on rehabilitation and responding well to treatment. The injury was not as serious as earlier envisaged but the player (Rabiu Ibrahim) needs to properly rest the leg (left knee) failure of which could cause further complications”

“He would be out for days but will definitely not be available for selection in the game against Liberia this week. But I can confirm to you that he would be fully fit for the Tanzania game in June” he declared.

Rabiu Ibrahim was a victim of a twin tackle from two Liberian defenders at the Samuel Kayon Doe stadium in the first leg of the AAG first round qualifier.

The player who is still in the country was last week issued his work permit to feature for his new club PSV Eindhoven in a four year contract.

Born 15 March 1991 in Kano, Rabiu Ibrahim in 2007, signed for Sporting Clube de Portugal in a joint ownership agreement with his previous club, Gateway FC.

In the summer of 2010, Ibrahim left Sporting as a free agent and joined PSV in January 2011.

Meanwhile the U-23 National team observed Sunday as Easter break. Training resumes on Monday.

The team is camped at the Isno Hotel, GRA, Benin city.
