Some Nigerians in Diaspora have launched a new website (www.diaspora4buhari.com) to persuade friends and family members back home to vote for Buhari.
The co-ordinator and creator of the website, Ibraheem Dooba, said their inability to vote in April shouldn’t translate into inability to influence the outcome of the elections.
“There’s a lot we can do from outside Nigeria. The first thing we did was to narrow our choice to Buhari and Bakare then we created a website to ask people who feel as we do to pledge how many friends and family members they can convince to vote for Buhari,” he said.
“The site has been a huge success so far,” Dooba said adding that, “people from different ethnic groups have pledged votes; and they did this not because they were paid or expecting a compensation, but because that’s the right thing to do. Even the website was created from our own pockets.”
He also said that members of the group find it unnecessary to formally inform Buhari Campaign Organization saying “our job is to convince our people to vote for the people that will call forth the rapid transformation of our nation.”
Dooba said, “Our families and friends are likely to vote for whom we want them to vote. We have millions of Nigerians in Diaspora, if we can get a fraction of that number to pledge votes; it could translate into millions of votes for Buhari.”
