The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Inspector General of Police must ensure that no politician or political appointee is allowed access to any polling unit with their security personnel in order to avoid intimidation of the electorates and electoral officers, Dr Alban Awareness Foundation (DAAF) has advised.

This was part of the resolutions agreed upon at a talk shop on “How to Have Credible Elections in the April 2011 General Elections’ which was organized by the Foundation founded by one of Nigeria’s world distinguished and Sweden-based musician, Dr Alban Nwapa.

The talk shop which was attended by representatives of the NUJ, National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and Nigeria Civil Service Union (NCSU) among other stakeholders also urged INEC to provide First Aid and standby emergency health care facility in all polling units, especially for pregnant women and senior citizens.

The communiqué which was read yesterday in Abuja during a press briefing by the Executive Director of DAAF, Dympna Nwapa asked INEC to publish election guidelines and details of number of registrants at each polling unit on its website.
