Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp has warned potential suitors off making a move for Luka Modric by revealing that the midfielder is not for sale at any price.
The playmaker has said to be interesting sides in Italy and across Europe, including Juventus and Inter, who have both taken note of his performances this season.
The Croatian has played a pivotal role in the club’s success in the Premier League and the Champions League, where the north London club will play Real Madrid in the quarter-finals next month.
Redknapp told Croatian newspaper Sportske Novosti: “I wouldn’t want to sell him for £100 million. Not even for a billion. He’s the hub of the team.”
The Spurs manager’s comments have been echoed by Modric’s agent, Mario Mamic, who believes the stories linking his client to the continent to be gossip and stated the midfielder is in for the long haul at White Hart Lane.
“These are just rumours,” Mamic told Calcio Mercato. “Luka has a contract until 2016 and Tottenham have no plans to sell him. He has an excellent relationship with the coach, Redknapp, and only signed a contract extension with Spurs last summer.”
The futures of Modric’s Croatian team-mates at Tottenham, Niko Kranjcar and Vedran Corluka, look less secure as both players find themselves in and out of the starting 11.
When asked over the future of Kranjcar, Redknapp said: “Niko’s a great player and a great guy, very polite, but the guy just has no luck. I don’t want him to leave the club – he was fantastic last season – but we’ve got Gareth Bale out on the left of midfield.
“Believe me, he’ll be back in the team. I don’t know when, but he will be back.”
The Spurs also revealed he would be sad to see the departure of Corluka who has struggled with injuries this season.
He said: “I would be sorry to lose him.
“He’s a really upbeat guy, always does what I ask him, but unfortunately he suffered the injury in that stupid challenge from Mathieu Flamini at AC Milan and it ended that great run of form he was in.”
