Why Chukwumerije should be elected, by Orji

Abia State Governor Theodore Orji has urged Abians to vote for Senator Uche Chukwumerije because he is in “Igbo’s First Eleven.”

Besides, Chukwumerije will be a sure Igbo candidate for the Senate Presidency if the position is zoned to the southeast after the elections, he said.

Orji spoke in Umuahia, the state capital, while seeking support for Chukwumerije, according to a statement by his Special Adviser on Media, Mr. Ben Onyechere.

Chukwumerije, who is representing Abia North, is seeking a return to the Senate on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He is being challenged by his former leader in the Progressive Peoples Alliance (PPA), ex-Governor Orji Uzor Kalu.

Orji said: “The presence of Chukwumerije in the Senate is not only beneficial to Abians but to the Igbo and as such, he is an Igbo project. He is the only Igbo man who can reclaim the prestige and honour of the race in the Senate since after the staccato of Igbo leadership in the Senate when five Senate presidents were produced in quick succession.

“The only way Igbo can come back to reckoning is if we send him back to the Senate as he is the only one who has the charisma to take up the mantle of leadership in the Senate.”

The governor added that “the uncompromising nature of the senator and his acceptability by his colleagues will make it even easier for him to take up that responsibility. The Senate is not a place for unserious people whose only agenda is personal and unscrupulous.
