The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Rivers State will cancel election in any area there is violence, it said yesterday.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Aniedi Ikoiwak, spoke in Port Harcourt, the state capital, during an interactive forum with stakeholders in Rivers East Senatorial District.
He warned politicians and their supporters to conduct themselves peacefully to avoid cancelling election in any area.
Ikoiwak said if election was cancelled in violence-prone places, INEC would not conduct the exercise in those areas.
The REC said there was no room for election riggers and ballot box snatchers in the state.
He commended the parties for conducting peaceful campaigns, observing that some of them have started using abusive words against their opponents.
Ikoiwak assured the parties of adequate protection and urged them to assist the commission in conducting “peaceful, credible, free and fair elections.”
