De Rossi was excluded for the game by coach Cesare Prandelli after he was sanctioned with a three-match ban in the Champions League while playing for club side Roma.
La Nazionale are hoping to defend their position as group leaders when they travel to Ljubljana, and Mauri is confident they will leave an impression, despite the loss of their influential midfielder.
“Even without De Rossi we have a strong midfield with many players of different quality, but it’s down to the coach to chose the right mix,” Mauri told the press.
“We are a national team with many qualities, maybe less than previous years, but we have enough to reach certain objectives.”
Mauri responded to Slovenia coach Matjaz Kek who said his side would win the contest, adding: “They say they will beat us, better for them. We are going there to play our game.”
