A National Democratic Congress (NDC) youth group in the Sekondi-Takoradi metropolis calling itself ‘NDC Concerned Youth’ has rubbished claims by the dismissed Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Chief Executive, Kobina Pra Annan, also called ‘Malon’ that some party activists in the metropolis masterminded his dismissal.

They have also dared the out-going MCE to come out with the alleged secrets about the ruling party that he claimed he would expose, or stop what they termed as ‘the baseless and useless allegations’ the ex-MCE was making on some radio station which was giving the NDC and the president a bad name.

“We can say for sure that Malon is just bragging. There is no secret in the party that he claims he will expose. The only secret he can tell the people, is the reason he was removed from office,” they stressed.

Addressing a press conference in Takoradi last Friday, the spokesperson for the group, Joseph Adjei, revealed that before the appointment of Malon as the MCE for Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA), a lot of party activists complained about his character and yet the party went ahead and gave him the position.

He disclosed that there were about 15 party activists who were also interested in the position of MCE for Sekondi-Takoradi, but Malon was given the post because he had come all the way from Norway to contest the Takoradi Parliamentary seat on the ticket of the party in the 2008 parliamentary elections and lost.

Joseph Adjei added that some of the party members who wanted the post as the MCE but could not get it did not complain, adding, “Today Malon has been removed and he goes about giving the NDC and the president a bad name.”

The spokesperson explained that recently, president sent some NDC stalwarts including Totobi Kwakye, Ato Ahwoi and Nii Lamptey Vanderpuye to some of the constituencies to meet with the leadership of the party to discuss the performances of the various Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs).

He alleged that the president’s decision to sack the Sekondi-Takoradi MCE might have been based on the information he received from the delegation about him and his performance as the mayor of the oil-city.

Adjei described the sacked MCE as a traitor whose allegations on radio stations should be treated with all the contempt that they deserved. According to him, there was no need for the dismissed MCE to move from one radio station to another, leveling all sorts of allegation against the executives of the party in the Western Region since he knew that it was the president’s prerogative to appoint or remove any person from office.

“Malon’s behaviour after his removal from office suggests that he was meant to be a traitor in the NDC and such a person cannot lead the party to victory in 2012,” he asserted.

He therefore commended the president for making what he described as the right decision and alleged that there were a lot of people in leadership positions of the party who had traits similar to that of the out-going MCE and called on the president to also deal with such people.
