Liverpool owner John W Henry has praised manager Kenny Dalglish, insisting that the Anfield legend has done “very well” since replacing Roy Hodgson in January.
The head of New England Sports Ventures, the group that took control of the club after Tom Hicks and George Gillett’s reign, was speaking after the Reds took all three points at Sunderland on Sunday with a 2-0 win that means Dalglish has now picked up 20 points in his first 10 league games in the hotseat.
Henry said: “He Dalglish has done very well. It’s all very positive.
Rumours regarding Dalglish’s future at the club continue to make headlines, but the American has insisted that no details of the Scot’s contract talks are to enter the public forum, claiming that it is the “Liverpool way” of doing things.
He said: “What is going on in that regard is private. It is something called the Liverpool way and you do these things behind closed doors. I am not going to talk about these things.”
The win over Steve Bruce’s side left Liverpool in sixth and with European football only on offer to the league’s top five teams this season, Henry has insisted that the Reds won’t give up the fight to remove Tottenham, currently four points ahead of Dalglish’s men, from the Europa League spot.
He said: “This was a big three points for us because this is a tough place to come. Can we finish fifth? We will have to have a lot of days like today to do that.
“Tottenham are in fifth and they look very good so we will have to play extraordinarily well. And we will have to win when they come to Anfield to have a shot at that but we will do our best.”
