Kano-based business outfit, Mingles Exclusive Nigeria Limited, has petitioned the Inspector General of Police, Alhaji Hafiz Ringim, over the invasion, destruction, unlawful arrest ,detention and confiscation of the company’s properties by the Kano State Government owned Hisbah (Sharia police, valued at N8 million.
The petition, filed by the company’s solicitors, Daniel A. Ayemi & Company and made available to The Nation in Kano yesterday, stated that on February 19, 2011, at about 5.30 pm, the Kano State Hisbah militants, numbering about 1,000 invaded and vandalised the non-residential business premises, located on Maganda Road, Bompai, Kano, armed with assorted weapons, like cutlasses, sticks and iron rods.
On arrival at the business premises, according to the petition, the Sharia militants met the Chief Executive Officer of the organisation, Mr Cyril Sado, outside the premises and forcefully bundled him into the premises, informing him that they were instructed by the Kano State governor to shut down the business outfit.
In the process, they started destroying the properties of the company with their cutlasses and iron rods by smashing 16 refrigerators, all the chairs, widow glasses and speakers before brutalising staff and guests in the premises.
The Sharia militants, the petition stated, did not stop at that, as they snatched a brand new laptop, belonging to one of the staff, Moshood Musa, during which they broke into the chairman’s office, ransacked it and carted away two laptops, $5,000 and two expensive camcoders.
