A Federal High Court, Abuja, yesterday affirmed the son of late Head of State Gen. Sanni Abacha, Mohammed as the Kano State Congress of Progressive Change (CPC) candidate.
Delivering judgement in a suit filed by Mohammed against the party and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Justice Gabriel Kolawole, warned the party against violating its order.
He ordered the INEC to recognise, accept and deal with the plaintiff as the flagbearer of the CPC in the governorship election in Kano State slated for April 16, 2011, having emerged the winner of the January 12th (CPC) primaries.
Mohammed scored 144,066 votes at the primary beating his closest aspirant Brig. Gen. Lawal Jaffaru Isah (RTD) who polled 78,671, and was duly declared winner by the Chairman of the CPC Election Team, Prof. M. D Suleiman.
Thousands of supporters of Kano State gubernatorial flagbearer on the platform of the Congress of Progressive Change (CPC), Alhaji Mohammed Sani Abacha yesterday took to the streets of Kano in wild jubilation over his court victory, which affirmed him as the state CPC governorship candidate for the April poll.
The teaming supporters of CPC, who are believed to be loyal to Abacha, converged around the Nasarawa GRA where both Abacha’s residence and the campaign office are located to felicitate with him.
They also commended the court for delivering what they called “a just judgment”.
